About Us

Welcome to our community created by Lorna M. Scott, author of the best selling book for family caregivers, Walking the Journey Together … Alone, Finding Peace, Hope, and Joy in the Middle of the Sh**.

You are in the right place if:

  • You are caring or supporting a loved one with a chronic illness, disability, or age related needs,
  • You are an employer wanting to know how to support your employees who are family caregivers without a negative impact on your business

Lorna personally dealt with and faced many issues as a family caregiver. Her experience as a member of the Caregiver Advisory Council for the Mobilizing Action, Family Caregivers in Canada project helps her keep a pulse on emerging issues and solutions for family caregivers.

Lorna states: “When I heard my 44 year old husband, Callum, was diagnosed with cancer I thought my world had come to an end. My first thought was that I needed to find out everything out about this disease and make sure he had the best treatment possible. I wanted to ease his pain, take away his worry and help him get back to great health. I didn’t tell anyone about my pain, worry or fears:

“Is my husband going to die? What is happening to our life?  What if I can’t handle this?”

You don’t have to feel the same way. You can handle this. This is your place – your community. You are “at home” at The Caregiver’s Lighthouse. You will find someone who understands what you are going through and a safe place to talk about the fears and worries that you’ve never told anyone else.

You can count on Lorna’s personal experience and expertise to help you move forward when faced with sudden life changes of caregiving and:

  • Help you understand the exact help you need and where to get it
  • Get over your fear of the future
  • Reduce conflict and strengthen relationships with family and friends.

“It made me more aware that I may be too isolated, and also allow people (family) to take advantage of me.”

-Jim Jacob
